I wonder if we're gonna ever get home
I wonder if we're gonna ever get home tonight
Everywhere the waters getting rough
Your best intentions may not be enough
I wonder if we're gonna ever get home tonight
But if you break down
I'll drive out and find you
If you forget my love
I'll try to remind you
And stay by you when it don't come easy

I don't know nothing except change will come
Year after year what we do is undone
Time keeps moving from a crawl to a run
I wonder if we're gonna ever get home

You're out there walking down a highway
And all of the signs got blown away
Sometimes you wonder if you're walking in the wrong direction
But if you break down
I'll drive out and find you
If you forget my love
I'll try to remind you
And stay by you when it don't come easy

So many things that I had before
That don't matter to me now
Tonight I cry for the love that I've lost
And the love I've never found
When the last bird falls
And the last siren sounds
Someone will say what's been said before
It's only love we were looking for
But if you break down
I'll drive out and find you
If you forget my love
I'll try to remind you
And stay by you when it don't come easy
(When It Don't Come Easy, Patty Griffin)

Last night was Tridelta's Preference Tea, the final night of recruitment. It's an evening of sorority women in black dresses, pearls and hydrangeas, chocolate cake and piano playing.
After sharing with the girls how meaningful the sorority has been and how much our sisters mean to us, this beautiful song is performed. I stood next to my roommate of two years and my little sister, holding her hand while she held her little sister's hand, while catching the eye of my roommate of three years and two friends that have come to mean the world to me as the tears rolled down my cheeks. I love these women.
I thought about how they have been pillars of strength for me and have stood by me in the times when I broke down and needed love most. I thought about Clint and how I would rather work through challenges with him and go through days and days when we're apart and days when I'm frustrated with him to no end than be without him, even when it don't come easy. I thought about how I want to be the kind of friend that shows the overwhelming, unconditional love I have received, the kind this song describes. I am very thankful for Tridelta, and for the friends I've found through this sorority.
