the season of color and growth

Seasons is a wise metaphor for the movement of life...it suggests that life is neither a battlefield nor a game of chance but something infinitely richer, more promising, more real. The notion that our lives are like the eternal cycle of the seasons does not deny the struggle or the joy, the loss of the gain, the darkness or the light, but encourages us to embrace it all - and to find in all of it opportunities for growth...

Spring in its fullness is not easy to write about. Late spring is so flamboyant that it caricatures itself...perhaps we are meant to yield to this flamboyance, to understand that life is not always to be measured and meted as winter compels us to do but to be spent from time to time in a riot of color and growth. Late spring is... a great giveaway of blooming beyond all necessity and reason -done, it would appear, for no reason other than the sheer joy of it. The gift of life, which seemed to be withdrawn in winter, has been given once again...

Parker Palmer, Let Your Life Speak

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, 11

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born and a time to die;

a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;

a time to kill, and a time to heal;

a time to break down, and a time to build up;

a time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

a time to seek, and a time to lose;

a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

a time to tear, and a time to sew;

a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

a time to love, and a time to hate;

a time for war, and a time for peace.

He has made everything beautiful (some translations read 'appropriate') in its time.

There is nothing better for man than to eat, drink, and to enjoy his work (2:24)
There is nothing better than for a person to enjoy his activities (3:22)
There is nothing better for them than to rejoice and enjoy the good life (3:12)

Spring is the season to be spent in "a riot of color and growth:" growth as I prepare to graduate and begin a new chapter, color as I intend to appreciate & enjoy what lies behind and before me!

After all, there is nothing better than for a person to enjoy his work, activities, life...
